Today’s adventure will begin with a drive to Merzouga. You will pass through the city of Ifrane, which is considered the coldest place in Morocco. Ifrane is also known as the Switzerland of Morocco because of the housing architecture and snowfall. Continue your journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains to the Cedar forest in Azrou, which is 3940 feet in elevation. Here you will have the opportunity to feed the endangered Barbary (Macaque) Monkeys. You will then continue to travel the scenic roads through the Atlas Mountains, stopping for lunch and heading to Ziz the valley of palm groves. Continuing to Merzouga, here you will meet your next mode of transportation, a camel. You will ride your camel for approximately an hour and a half, to the tent in the Berber Camp situated in the dunes. In the dunes you will experience the life of a nomad, eat the food and enjoy the sound of Berber music. The tents are equipped with comfortable beds, blankets and pillows. Early this morning your journey will begin with a breathtaking sunrise in the desert. The sun rises just behind the Algerian border approximately 50 km (31.1 miles) from Merzouga. When the sun makes its glorious entrance for the day you will hop back on the camel and ride back to the hotel, where you have breakfast. After breakfast your excursion will begin by exploring fortresses, the Valley of Palmeries and gorges. You will visit the wells that were used as an irrigation system in the 17th century and Todra Gorge. Stopping by the highest Oasis in Morocco, with mountains 300 M (1000 feet). From here you will travel through the city of Tinghir as you make your way to BoumalnDades where you will stay for the night. Distance: 250 km (155.342 miles)
Following breakfast your excursion will begin by traveling through the Valley of Roses where the festival of Roses is celebrated at the end of May each year. You will continue onward to Skoura, oasis of palm groves. From here you will head to the city of Ouarzazate which is known as the Hollywood of Morocco because of the Cinema Studios. Not far from the Cinema museum, you will stop by the Kasbah of Taourirt. The journey continues to the most famous Kasbah in Morocco, Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. The Kasbah is situated on the hillside along the Ounila River. Ait Ben Haddou has been an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Many films have been produced in the Kasbah including: Gladiator, The Message, The Mummy, Alexander and Babel. After the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah tour, you will have lunch and continue to travel to the city of Marrakech crossing the Tizi n Tichka in the High Atlas Mountains. The pass was built by the French Military in 1936. It lies between Marrakech and the Sahara. Tizi n Tichka is the highest mountain in Northern Africa. Reaching Marrakech you will unwind in your hotel for the evening. Distance: 300 km (186.411 miles)
