After breakfast, your day begins with a drive to Merzouga. You will pass through the city of Ifrane, which is considered the coldest place in Morocco. Ifrane is also known as the Switzerland of Morocco because of the housing architecture and the snowfall. Continue your journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains to the cedar forest in Azrou, which is 3940 in elevation. Here you will have the opportunity to feed the endangered Barbary (Macaque) Monkeys. Continuing on you will pass through, the Ziz Valley, heading to Merzouga. When you reach Merzouga you will hop on your camel for an hour and a half. When you reach the Berber camp, you will have dinner and enjoy Berber Music. Here you will spend the evening enjoying the desert sites, sounds and stars. Distance: 466 km (289.559 miles)
This morning following breakfast, you will go off-roading to discover Merzouga, the same road used in the Paris-Dakar Rally. One of the stops along the way you will learn how the locals extract fossils from the heart of the earth. Continuing on you will visit the nomads who still live in tents made of camel wool. Here you will learn about nomad life while sipping on a warm cup of mint tea. After visiting the nomads you will continue crossing the desert capturing the different faces of the dunes and black volcanic rock. You will pass through small villages to the Khamlia Villages, where the locals from Africa practice their traditional Gnawa Music. Following the excitement of the music and dance you will stop for lunch, experiencing Berber Pizza. After you have relaxed and had lunch you will continue to the lake of Merzouga. Explore the sites and sounds of the desert lake. After touring the lake you will return to your hotel for the evening.
Early in the morning, you can walk over the sand dunes to watch the sunrise. After the sun makes its appearance you will hop back on your camel taking in the breathtaking morning colors of the dunes, as if you walked into a beautiful watercolor painting. Reaching your hotel you will enjoy a relaxing breakfast. After breakfast you will head towards the gorges, stopping of in Rissani, the town where the Alouite Dynasty was established. Here you will visit the historic monument of Siijilmasa, many Kasbah’s, the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, and the large souk. Continuing the journey you will pass through the Ziz Valley and stroll the Todgha Gorge. Following the beautiful mountains and rivers of the gorge, you will relax in your hotel for the evening. After breakfast, you will pass through the Valley of Roses, where the festival of Roses is celebrated at the end of May each year. The journey continues onward passing the Skoura’s oasis of palm groves and reaching the city of Ouarzazate. From here you will head to the city of Ouarzazate, which is known as the Hollywood of Morocco because of the Cinema Studios. Many famous movies were filmed here such as Cleopatra, Kingdom of Heaven, Galdiator, Kundun and Game of Thrones. Continue to the extraordinary Kasbah of Telouet. From here you will drive to the most famous Kasbah in Morocco, Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. The fortified village and Kasbah are situated in the hills along the Ounila River. Ait Ben Haddou has been an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Many films have been produced in the Kasbah including: The Message, The Mummy, Alexander and Babel. After the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah tour you will stop for lunch. After lunch you will make your way through the spectacular Tichka Pass in the Atlas Mountains, a great time to have your camera handy. Following the Tichka Pass your journey reaches Marrakech. When you reach Marrakech you will relax for the evening in your Riad or Hotel. Distance: 300 km (186.411 miles)
